“About 56% of older adults over the age of 65 in Michigan are married, 24% are widowed, 15% are divorced or separated and 5% never married.” (Mack, 2018). Only 4% of Michigan residents over the age of 60 live with their grandchildren (Mack, 2018).  Similarly, more older adults are divorced compared to previous generations (Mather, Scommegna & Kilduff, 2019). For example, the rate of divorced women age 65 and older raised from 3% to 14% from 1980 to 2018 (Mather, Scommegna & Kilduff, 2019).
